Driffield

A windy day saw us at Driffield, a MOD tank testing ground in North Yorkshire. Thee event started well with some fast times being posted by Huggy. All was well when a navigation error saw the Warrior leave the ground over a cutting and leap 15 feet into the air landing on the nose in a lake; the front of the car being completely submerged and water coming in fast all the way over the seats. Not the most comfortable feelings can tell you!

We got recovered by some AWDC marshals and continued. Then the problems started, the new shock absorbers blew the ends off and 3 runs had to be completed in a rough fashion but the Warrior held together. A consistent drive saw some very respectable times being put in while other top drivers had their problems resulting in a fourth overall and some much needed Championship points collected.

Pea Farm

Due to unforeseen circumstances this event was cancelled which meant on the scheme of things Huggy was going to the last round leading the Championship.

Newstead Abbey

As with most motor clubs the NORC adopts a method where Championship Drivers organise an event and consequently collect maximum points thus not eliminating from winning overall.

This made for a nail biting finale to the season. Big Ste Almond and Pete Roberts could, if finishing in a podium position clinch the title. This is because a driver can drop one round of the least points scored.

All Huggy could do is hope that that neither of the two won the event. As the weekend progressed it was clear that Steve was not going to win and Pete did not attain enough points.

A lot of speculation was banding around the pits and it was only later on that Sunday evening the Competition Secretary sent through the text message, "Well done Champ".

That was it, we had done it. Northern Cross Country Driver's Champion 2008.

The award ceremony in February saw Huggy collect his gigantic trophy, Naan for Winning Service Crew and Gable for the 2 wheel drive Class Championship.
